Fundraising Strategy for Improved Access to Healthcare

This foundation is dedicated to help impoverished communities in India by delivering sustainable energy solutions. Their work spans across multiple states and regions including Northeast India. To date, their initiatives have impacted 5,500,000 beneficiaries and yielded over 100+ sustainable energy-driven solutions.

OBJECTIVE OF THE STRATEGY ENGAGEMENT 

The foundation aimed to build a programme to provide reliable energy to improve healthcare quality and access, support timely diagnosis, enable life-saving interventions, and enhance climate resilience. To achieve this, they planned to establish multiple health centres across India. However, they recognised the need for strategic support and improvements in their fundraising approach to realise this vision. They were looking to establish a structured fundraising strategy and build capabilities to strengthen their fundraising efforts, engaging a wide range of stakeholders, including state governments and potential corporate partners. Sattva collaborated with the foundation to offer guidance and support, enabling them to secure funding from state governments and scale their fundraising strategy for the programme.

OUR APPROACH 

Sattva structured the fundraising strategy exercise into three distinct phases over a 12-week period. This approach allowed us to thoroughly understand the foundation’s funding needs, strengths, and areas for improvement.

In Phase 1, we focused on mapping internal trends and developing ecosystem perspectives. This included understanding the foundation’s mission, vision, funding sources, and growth goals. We conducted one-on-one interviews with stakeholders and donors to gather insights, and assessed fundraising materials like proposals and pitch decks. Additionally, we analysed funding channels in India, including CSR, domestic philanthropy, and ESG opportunities, particularly in clean energy and healthcare.

In Phase 2, we facilitated a series of working sessions with the foundation to identify target funder segments. This phase encompassed articulating the problem, integrating insights from Phase 1, identifying potential donors for the programme, determining the most effective fundraising channels, and developing strategies for donor engagement.

In Phase 3, we refined the fundraising strategy document for the foundation’s programme. We delivered a tailored list of potential funders, with a focus on CSR and philanthropic foundations, along with a comprehensive template for a one-year operational plan.

PROJECT DELIVERABLES

  • Provided a detailed analysis of the CSR and domestic philanthropy funding ecosystem.
  • Formulated and articulated clear fundraising objectives aligned with the foundation’s Theory of change.
  • Presented a structured fundraising strategy for the program, including a comprehensive one-year operational plan.
  • Delivered insights derived from comprehensive document reviews and stakeholder consultations.
  • Supplied a list of potential domestic and CSR funders, along with identified ESG opportunities.
  • Delivered a compilation of best practices for donor engagement, integrated into the strategy.

IMPACT

As part of the project the team was able to develop a customised data dashboard that enabled the client to access funding data relevant to their geographies and thematic areas across different funder archetypes. This enabled the client to continue to make data backed decisions to further build on the strategy provided to them by Sattva.
